What is actually happeningWhen a headline stops you cold
Your nervous system was not designed for the volume of the current news cycle. It was designed to respond to direct, immediate threat. It cannot distinguish between a story that is happening to you and a story that is happening near you, or to people like you, or in a world you inhabit.
A word lands. The body braces. Meaning gets assigned before reasoning begins. And then a familiar sentence forms, one you have felt before, one that is often older than this headline, older than this news cycle, older than today.
The mechanismThe gap between a headline and its resolution, the click, the scroll, the share, is not always accidental. Your unresolved activation is often the goal. The agitation you feel, the pull to know more, the low-grade dread that lingers, that is not always your intuition reading the world correctly. You are not overreacting. You are responding exactly as intended. The question is whether you want to keep following that script.
This is the Script Loop at work: a word lands, the body responds, meaning gets assigned, belief begins to form, and behaviour follows, often before you realise any of it has happened. The loop can be interrupted. Not after the fact. Right at the moment the body first signals.

News and media language enters at the body, before reasoning begins.
Interruption is possible at the same point.
How to know it is happening, before you are three scrolls deepMost people do not notice they have been activated until they are already inside the loop. These are the signals:
Chest tightness or a held breath you did not choose
A pull to scroll further without deciding to
Urgency about something that has not happened yet
A vague dread you cannot quite name or locate
The impulse to share before you have finished reading
